There is no single website dedicated to the diversity of liverworts. This is easily demonstrated by queries on the internet,
which turn up negligible results. This paucity of information has provided the impetus for a new initiative, LIIF, a multi-authored facility
for liverworts containing information about phylogeny and biological diversity.
The core informational elements of LIIF include:
- LIIF: Home
- LIIF: Info
- Image Library
- Phylogeny & Classification
- Biogeography
- Species Profiles
- Chemical Diversity
- Identification & Terminology
- Morphological Diversity
- Flora/Monograph Projects
- Links
LIIF will also offer a range of resources that will help aid identification. These will include: Species pages outlining diversity and distribution; colour guides that will provide rapid identification of regionally common species, thus help bryologists focus collections on target species that remain poorly known; and interactive keys. Therefore, the development of a resource such as LIIF will aid regional revisions It is envisaged that LIIF will help facilitate regional and global taxonomic and systematic studies. It is envisaged that LIIF will grow and expand to provide a centre and portal for information on liverwort diversity to serve the needs of the scientific community, as an educational tool, and for the general public.
